My Favourite Films of All Time: 20-11

20. Citizen Kane
The "greatest film of all time" might not be exactly that for me, but it is undoubtedly the film with the greatest direction I've ever seen.

19. Brokeback Mountain
I wasn't too interested in seeing this at first, and even when I did go to watch it, I was only interested in seeing it for Heath Ledger's performance. Well, how surprised was I when I finished! Heartbreaking, beautiful, and simply amazing. More than just the "gay cowboy movie".

18. Stand By Me
A nostalgic film that becomes more rewarding upon repeat viewings.

17. Bicycle Thieves
One of the bleakest and simple films you'll ever see, but one that you'll want to watch again and again.

16. The Shawshank Redemption
Another film that was previously my favourite. Overtime, it's slightly lost that initial effect, but there's no denying this classic's power.

15. E.T: The Extra Terrestrial
A childhood favourite that still brings tears to my eyes to this day. The most magical film ever made.

14. City of God
This astonishing drama is one of the most powerful and impactful films I've ever seen.

13. Requiem For A Dream
A film you only have to see once for it to sear into your mind. This is the most powerful film ever made.

12. The Godfather Part II
Modern day directors, take note: This is how to make a sequel. Almost matches the original. Almost.

11. The Thin Red Line
The best war film ever made. Terrence Malick is an undeniable genius.

  1. Muahaha, still haven't seen ET, much to the chagrin of you and my family

  2. The only one of these I haven't seen is Brokeback Mountain. I should really make that priority. Anyway, nice list. I love all of these, but I think I have to give Bicycle Thieves another viewing to further my appreciation of it.

  3. So far I must say, nice! Your list is fabulous. Have you noticed that on The Thin Red Line it says 911 instead of 11?
